Miss Florence Johnston went to Elkhart Monday for a few days’ •visit. Born. Wednesday afternoon to Mr. and Mrs. Scott Shellman, a ten pound son. M. Konkle, father of Rev. Konkle of this place, started Wednesday 'or Ontario, Canada. Miss Esther Barnes of Kewanna. is spending this week -among her Remington, friends., William Glosser moved Tuesday into his new residence, which has just been completed. Mrs. Burley Parks of Etna Green. Ind., spent a few days with relatives here last week and this. Misses Amanada and Olga Baier went to Cissna Park Monday for a week’s visit with relatives.’ Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson went to Detroit. Mich., Monday to attend the National encampment of the G. A. R. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Biddle went to Detroit. Monday, to be in attendance at the National Encampment of the G. A. R. Miss Dela Williams of Fairbury, returned to her work Wednesday after a ten days' visit with her parents here. Joe Milner and family returned to their home at Indianapolis Wednesday after a two weeks’ visit with his parents. Mrs. Jennie Wright and daughter, Vera, left Thursday for a two weeks' visit with her sister, Mrs. C. McCain, of Indianapolis. Mrs. Jennie Wright and daughter, of Peoria. 111., were week-end guests of the former s sister-in-law, Mrs, John Dunham. D. R. .Tones and daughter. Miss Alice, started Tuesday morning for a month’s visit with his daughter. *Mrs. Pearl Greene, at New YorK City. Mr. and Mrs. .Jud Adams of near Rensselaer, and sister, Mrs. John Williams, of Watseka, were guests of their aunt, Mrs. M. J. Moore, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Will Hamilton moved. Tuesday to the Spencer Hamilton farm, between here and Goodland. Spencer Hamilton and family have moved to Goodland. Homer Babb returned Monday from a business trip to New York, and is much pleased with the land prospects, and will probably purchase a farm there soon. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hicks and children, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ross Myers, autoed to Indianapolis Wednesday to spend a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Steve Yeoman. Reece Robev of Reynolds, who lived in Remington 2b or 30 years ago, was renew ing old acquaintances Monday. He was section foreman for seven years while living here. Harve Stoudt returned Saturday from a trip to New York state in the neighborhood of that visited by other Remington men. He is mighty well impressed by what he saw there. John A. Miller accompanied by Mrs. Robert Miller and Mrs. Stella Ochs, went to Ft. Wayne Thursday morning to be present at a family reunion. and to visit old scenes and friends. Mrs. Ed Sutherland went to Lafayette Thursday where she has secured a fine rooming house. We understand Ed will remain here for a time, and expects to make another trip west in the near future. The many friends of Miss Carrie Bonner will be pleased to know that she is improved enough to be able to be out on the street Wednesday in a wheel chair, after her serious attack of sciatic rheumatism for the past month or more. Miss Alice Williams of ■ Crown Point, one of the domestic science teachers of East Chicago public schools, and Miss Ella Lyons of Brook, formerly an East Chicago; high school teacher, visited Miss Ethel Greene last Thursday. .Mrs. Margaret Schmitz, mother of Rev. John Schmitz, pastor of the Catholic church, died at one o'clock a. m., Wednesday, after a long illness with Bright's disease. She was 74 years of age. The funeral was held at the church this Thursdaymorning at 7:30 and remains taken to Chicago where church services will be held Friday and burial conducted. At ia meeting of the stockholders at the Park the other day it was decided by a majority of the stock represented, that they would waive the right of the stockholder from this time on to draw- ticket dividends on their stock. There were in the neighborhood of 1,200 tickets issued each year on stock and if these all pay cash entrance it will mean considerable additional revenue to the association. I The school board desires us to say that the public schools of Remington will open on Monday, Sept. 7, with a full corps of teachers. That the school building has been renovated and refurnished, revarnished and put in the best shape it has ever been. That the high school room has been enlarged by the removal of a partition and that otherwise the building is in very fine shape for the opening of the coming term. Marion and Hazel Gilman are very desirous of seeing the old country, even to the extent of serving as Red r ross nurses, and if the war continues for any length of time their wish may be granted.
George H. Smith and daughter left last Monday morning for Montpelifr. 0., to visit with relatives and friends. Mr. Smith contemplated attending the forty-eighth national G. A. It. encampment at Detroit, Mich, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Gravel >f Gilman, 11l , and ,<r. Harry Gravel * Ebrl Park, and Air. and Mrs. A. F. Gravel of this place, attended a reunion at Burnetts Creek, Ind., on Thursday of last week. Of the families who gave the reunion there were 1 present, and 40 that could not attend. Alva McClellan, residing northeast of town, who is a smallpox patient, is reported better at this writjing---but we understand that several of his neighbors were exposed to the disease before it was learned what his ailment was. We have been informed that a case of smallpox has developed near Foresman. E. D. Gilman has started an experiment station and the knowledge ained will lie of great benefit to the farmers. Tuesday he sowed five varieties of alfalta, three of clover and two of timothy. Of the former there were Turkish, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska and Ohio; of clover, alsike. Mammoth and medium red; of timothy, Russian and American. When the above vanities begin to grow Vr Gilman extends an invitation to his farmer triends to call and investigate the outcome and see what this s >il is the best adapted to . Mr. Gilman lias visited the large government experiment station at Fargo, N. D.. and the plan used by him is the same as is used at that station only on a smaller scale.

York by auto and stopped over Snuday to visit Mr. Ade. Mrs. John Pence and son, John, went to Indianapolis Monday to visit her sister, Mrs. Schuyler Jones, for a few days. Herman Ploutz and family of Goodland. were out the last of the week to visit their daughter, Mrs. Ernest James. Arthur Irwin left Monday for Indianapolis. wnere he will enter school this term and continue his studies in music and dramatic art. Fred Mayhew and wife returned to their home in Logansport Saturday after spending a few days with his father, W. D. Mayhew. Mrs. Edward Hill left for her home at Hartford, Mich., Thursdax after spending a week at the bedside of her father, Peter Herath. Elijah Clinton and wife from Custer, Okla., and Mrs. Clinton s mother Mrs. Standisb, from Mt. Ayr. were in Brook Wednesday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Reese Clinton. Ceter Herath is still in very bad shape. The physicians give very little hope of his improvement. They "tapped'' hint last week and removed over a gallon of dropsical water, blit he is in almost the same condition again.

J. Li ly. Miss Ara Griswold went to Kokomo Monday to attend teachers' institute. She will teach in Howard county this year. Edward illume went to Crawfordsville Tuesday, where he will have charge of the Winger-Blume exhibit at the fair in that city Mr. and Mrs. Edward Downing and children of West Liberty, Ohio who have been visiting their aunt, Mrs. A. H. Wingard, returned home Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Sterrett. who have been visiting Mrs. Sterrelt's parents. Mi*, and Mrs Allen May. left Tuesday for Carmel, where they will teach in the schools. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Winters and family of Chicago, who have , be- i visiting Mrs. Winters parents, Mr. and Mrs, A. PC Griswold, north o! town, went to Monticello Tuesday evening to visit friends. Miss Grace Goodacre left Tuesday for Hoven, S. Dak., where she will teach the coming year. Miss Grace was accompanied on her journey by her father, who will see h r settled before tie returns. The concert given by the Wolcott concert band Thursday evening, Sept. 3, is the last concert of the season. The contract of the businc* men and the band has run out and no further concerts will be given unless a new agreement should be entered into. Mrs. .John Clymer died at her home in Wolcott, Sunday at 12:30 o’clock, of tubercolosis. Mrs. Clmer had b-en in failing health for many monthsThe funeral was held from the M !•;. church. Tuesday morning, at o’clock and interment made in the Meadow Lake cemetery. C. M. Smith accompanied by his three daughters, and John Alar.hy drove through in their machine from Mt. Pleasant, Mich, and are,visit?n» Mr. Smith's sister, Mrs. Quincv Hughes. The party left Mt. Pleasant at 7:00 Wednesday: morning and reached here at 7:30 Thursday morning having traveled a little over 340 miles.

Spence left Monday for Detroit , where they are attending the national G, A. R. encampment. Mr. and Mrs Walter Kessinger of near Medaryville. have returned from Michigan, where they put in more than a week with Mr. and, Mrs. Air Whitaker. Elgie Heath of Remington was in town Friday. Elgie lived ’ h-rc some twenty years ago. Some of the older residents can remember quite a fistic encounter he had with a freight brakeman, who stole his birddog. Elgie cleaned up the railroader got his dog back, but in the mix-up his antagonist bit a dimple in his chin. Ray Goddard of Aledo, 111., was the guest of old acquaintances here Saturday and Sunday. Ray has not been back to the old town for nearly ] 5 years and there has been so many changes since then that fanrlar scenes were almost obliterated. He
and his brother, orville, have purchased a general store at Clark's Hill and he will retire from his farm near Aledo. Dr. F. L. Sharrer, physician and surgeon of this place, will leave October first,* for Guthrie, Okla.. whee he has been appointed chief surgeon for the Guthrie pity hospital to succeed Dr \\. C. West, who is being unavoidably detained in Europe oh account of the war. The hospital is non-sectarian and co-operative, an-i is patronized extensively by the physicians and surgeons of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dunn and daughter, Vivian, were in Wheatfield on business this week. Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Moreau returned Wednesday from their several weeks' visit at Plymouth, Ind. Mrs. A. Benham is visiting her daughter, Miss Millie, and other relatives in Michigan City, this week. Mrs. Frank Vanek and baby of Knox, are the gnests of her parents, Mr and airs. James ampbell, since Monday. Mrs. Amanada Fess. who has been visiting her sister. Mrs. Emma Campbell, at Hammond, for some time has returned. Mrs. John Sutton of Balbec, Ind., visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Reed, and other relatives here several days this week. Charles and Ernest Harris and Marie an Lucy Harris of Mt. Ayr, motored here recently to Visit their cousin, Mrs. Ellis Redinbo. Mrs. R. P. Hackley left last Wednesday tor St. Louis to visit her daughter. Miss Pauline, who has been taking treatment there for the past several months. The Gillam home coming has come and gone. While the exercises on I hursday and Friday were greatlv interfered with bv the inclemency of t:ie weather, Saturday and Sunday were great days. The Home Coming closed with the election of Judge Charles Hanley as president, Schuyler C. Robinson as vice-president, and Mrs. .Jennie Robinson as secretarv. We hope to be able to publish a more derailed account next week.

Miss Rose, spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. W. A Shlndler. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Stucker returned to their home in Lafayette on Monday evening after a week’s \isit with relatives anti friends. Mrs. Joe Long and her sister and husband were Mt. Ayr visitors last week. Mrs. Long moved her household goods to her home near V .1paraiso. Mack Teach went to Crown Point on Monday to take jn the fair this week. He was accompanied by Ernest Harris, who will spend the week at the Teach home. Prof. Mason and family of Bloomington. Ind., spent a few days with Mr*. Mattie Barton. Prof. Masuii was formerly principal 'of the school* at this place, and will be a member of the faculty at Purdue this year. Jhe Mt. Ayr ball team defeated Donovan on the home grounds by the score ot J to 1„ The locals have struck their stride again, winning four games straight. They would like to hook a few more games with the neighboring towns.
McCOYSBURG. Mrs. Stultz spent Friday and Saturday with friends in Rensselaer. School opened here Monday morning with Miss Miles as teacher ami Jl pupils. Mrs. Stultz called on Mrs. Lutz and Mrs. Jeffers and family Sundav afternoon. Robert McDonald and family spent Sunday with her folks, J. R. Phillp.s i.riu - family. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stephens spent Sunday with her folks, J. R. Phillips and family. Dr. Hemphill reported Mr. Becker L-etter. He was out to see him Monday morning. Josie Stultz returned home Wednesday evening after a week’s visit in Hammond. i Miss Ethel Ferguson is sick with typhoid fever. Dr. Kresler of Rensselaer, is attending her. The little 1 b-months-old son c.f Mr. and .Mrs. Jesse Brown is on the sick list at this writing. Mrs. A. Meadows of Monon, spent ounday with her sister-in-law, Mrs. R. V. Johns and family. Mrs. Heck and little daughter, Edna Ruth, and Mrs. J. Brown were Rensselaer goers Thursday, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and family spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Wm. McDonald, and family. Mrs. James Nixon of Chalmers, spent Sunday with her father and brother, Thomas Becker and wife. Mrs. Van Wood'and children of Rensselaer, spent Sundav with her parents, J. R. Phillips and family. Mrs. W. R. Willetts and Mrs. R V. Johns and two little daughters took in the carnival at Rensselaer Friday. Mrs. John Herr accidently run a nail in her foot a few days ago and has since been quite lame, but is better now. Mrs. Ray McDonald returned to Monticello Sunday evening after a few days visit with her parents Mr and Mrs. J. R. Phillips. The barn of Frank Reinginsen was struck by lightning 'Saturday night and burned to the ground with all its contents except the horses. There were six head of horses in the barn
but Mr. Reinginsen was fortunate enough to get all out. -Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johns and Mr. and Mrs. Ross and family of Seafield, were calling on friends and relatives Sunday in and around the 'burg." There was quite a crowd out to church Sunday evening and we had a very good sermon. Services again in two weeks. Everybody come out and hear the new minister.

Mrs. Homer Ogle and Mrs. Wm Vanatta called on Mrs. J. F. Grouns Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. William Vanatta and Mr. and Mrs. William Harris attended the carnival Friday. -Mrs. John Havens and baby and Blossom, called on Mrs. John Shellheart Thursday evening. Mrj and Mrs. John Havens and baby called on Mr. and Mrs. G. Maryland Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Elmer Johnson and Mrs. Tom Johnson and families spent Sundav with her mother, Mrs. Anna Chap'man. Mr. and Mrs. William Havens and two children spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs. James Moore of Pleasant Ridge. Rev. Wright of Rensselaer, will preach here Sunday evening. Sept. 13. He always gives a very nice sermon which everyone enjoys. Mr. and Mrs. George Caster and family and Mr. arid .Mrs. Charles Beaver and family attended the carnival in Rensselaer Saturday. It looked very rainy Sunday morning and I guess nobody felt like going to Sunday school. But we all want to be there bright and early
next Sunday morning at 9:30 with happy faces and a good lesson to make up for missing one Sunday.
