Obituary of Joel F. Spriggs.
Joel Frazier Spriggs was born in Frazerburg, Muskingum “‘county, Ohio, Jan. 1, 1838, died at his home in Walker tp„ Jasper county, Ind., March 26, 1914, aged 76 years, 2 months and 26 daj s. He came with his parents to Jasper county from Darke county, Ohio, in 1859, where. he resided until his death. He was united, in marriage Jan. 4, 1864, to Julia Ann James. To this union were born ten children, five of whom have preceded him in death. Those living are Simon T. Spriggs, of near Medaryville; David Spriggs, of Walker tp.; Mrs. C. A. Lee, of Council Hill, Okla.; Mrs. Wta. Folger, of Barkley tp., and Mrs. John Holser, of near Brook. Simon, David and Maria and two sisters, Mrs, Asa Brown and Mrs. Samuel Hershman, were with him when death came. Mrs. C. A. Lee and Mrs. John Holser arrived later. For the past fifty years Mr. and Mrs. Spriggs have lived on the old homestead in Walker tp., and on the 4th of January, 1914, celebrated their golden wedding. Mr. Spriggs united with the church of God at Rensselaer early in life, and remained faithful until the end. His health had been failing for some time, but he was bedfast only a few days. His death beflng directly due to lobar pneumonia. The end came peacefully and he was fully conscious til the last. The widow, five children, twentythtree grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren and three sisters survive. The funeral was held Monday at 11 a. m„ from the Christian church in Rensselaer, Rev. W. G. Winn, the pastor, conducting the services. Burial was made in Weston cemetery. A good man has passed to his reward. Peace be to his ashes.
