Oats Not a Paying Crop.
In the seed oats demonstration being held in the various counties of the state, Professor Pipal, of Purdue University, one of the demonstrators, declares oats to be one of the crops that does not pay on the farm. It requires a yield of 3 0 bushels per acre and a price of 35c per bushel to pay the cost of producing an acre of oats, allowing $5 as the rental value of the land and ordinary wages for labor. The 1910 average for the state was 30 bushels and for some countries only 25 bushels. Thus you see with the latter yield it required 51.75 worth of corn to make up the deficiency of the oats crop.
