Resolutions Adopted By the Jasper County Democratic Convention.
We. your committee beg leave to submit the following report: We in os.t: li ea r t.i ly end brse the . spi end id administration of the Nation under the great leadership bf Woodrow Wilson and his wise and able Secretary o. State, William Jennings Bryan. ■i Indiana may feel justly proud of the , splendid statesmanship of Senators Shiyely and Kern and our corps of Indiana Congressmen in upholding the policies of our President and our National Platform. We of Jasper county are especially pleased with thewise action o f our own Representative in Con- . gress. and the 10th Indiana Distriet may well congratulate itself bn enlisting the services of that clean, honest, fearless gentleman and splendid citizen. John B. Peterson, and we hereby pledge to him out,, most earnest support.for reelection in November: We heartily endorse the wise and able administration of the affairs of State, in that Christian gentleman, Governor Samuel M. Ralston. He has proven to be one of the ablest executives ever chosen to that position in this great common weal th. We commend the able manner in which the other state offices have been conducted by Democraticlmeumbonts, and especially approve the action of the last General Assembly of Indiana, in fixing State levies, so as to fearlessly meet the defecits made by the prodigal administration of the financial: affairs of our State by the inefficiency of tne Republican office holders. We point with pride to the able manner in which our Democratic officers of Jasper county have conducted the business affairs of their offices, and we here and now pledge to the voters of Jasper County a ? ise ’ 'Thle and economical administration of the business affairs of this County, if the nominees of this convention be elected in November,
Signed at Rensselaer. Indiana, this 131 h d ay of March. 1914. E. P. HONAN. Chairman; JOHN BOWIE J- W. SMITH. ELLIS JOKES. lee e. glazebrook. Committee.

I GOT A LETTER FROM A FRATERNAL ORGANIZATION ASKING ME TO VOTE FOR THE IMMIGRATION BILL NOW PENDING. I VOTED AGAINST THE BILL ONCE, BUT IF I PLAYED THE GAME AS IT IS PLAYED IN WASHINGTON I WOULD WRITE TO MY CORRESPONDENT THAT I WOULD CAREFULLY CONSIDER THE MATTER, THEN I WOULD KEEP ON BLUFFING UNTIL IT CAME TO A SHOWDOWN. After I had voted against the bill I would hurry around and explain that matters arising at the last minute had made my act necessary and hand out a lot of stuff like that. I CAN’T STAND THAT SORT OF BUSINESS. < i THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE A CHANCE FOR AN HONEST, WIDE AWAKE, FRANK AND OPEN BUSINESS MAN IN CONGRESS, BUT I WAS QUICKLY DISILLUSIONED.
IN MEMORIAM.
SOMEWHERE along the endless miles Of blue green ice and dove white snow The dull sun smiles o’er feathered isles Where men lie dead below. 1 A NTARCTIC winds your keen ears heard Their last faint cry. What did they say? Was it. of home, the faltered word, As they knelt down to pray? their braVe eyes fight creeping sleep That sweetly numbs the freezing blood. And did they see beyond the deep The vision of their God? Z'IOL.D, cold their beds, but who shall say Their, memories shall not live and .grow?- . . Their names shall know* no yesterday. Their deeds no sunset glow. —Percy Shaw, REGRET. Regret Not with the aid of countless year Can I erase from memory The thought of what you were to me. And yet Methinks my grief would lose its sting.
