Merchants Have Good Holiday Trade

Rensselaer merchants have enjoyed a very good holiday trade this week, many customers from neighboring towns and from 15 to 25 mUes away being noticed among the choppers. This is because of the newspaper advertising conducted by the merchants, the most extensive advertisers, as usual, having the best trade, while the non-advertisers relieved some of the over-flow. Rensselaer is conceded one of the best trading points in northwestern Indiana and draws trade from a greater distance perhaps than any town four times its size in the state. Its central location, and good roads leading to it from every direction, together with the large up-to-date •tocks carried and the reasonable profits at which the goods are sold here, makes it an ideal trading paint. The Democrat reaches thousands mt readers witihin a radius of 25 miles of Rensselaer, and we notice that most of the out-of-town shoppers were readers of this paper, a •net that advertisers would do well to remember. v
