Tli e republican press is taking a melancholy satisfaction at this time in. characterizing democrats who are seeking recognition from the men whom they elected to office as “panhandlers feeding at the public pie counter/’ During the fifteen o r tw’enty years the republicans were engaged in the same gen.tile pastime the seekers for political favors were to be considered statesmen, pure unsullied by any motive save the most laudable desire to assist in the great work of “saving the country.” One thing Is absolutely certain and that is that the people voted for a change starting at the top and working clear through the long list of public positions td th© most lowly, and it is just as certain that the present incumbents are not to have a hand in the reorganization. And it is equally certain that the reading public is not foolish enough to swallow as facts the dirty sulrs that are being hurled broadcast in the fever of a very recent bitter defeat.—Starke County Democrat.
