Wife Find* Body Hanging. Muncle, Dec. 12. —Despondent because his landlord had informed him that be would have to move into a smaller house on the farm on which he was tenant, Lewis Curts, forty-five years old, a farmer, living seven miles northwest of Muncle, near Bethel, committed suicide by hanging himself. A short time before going out to do his morning’s work about the barn Curts said to his wife: “You could get along without me, couldn’t you?” She paid no attention to his remark, but a short time later, when she went to the barn she found her husband’s body dangling from a rope in a buggy shed. L. O. T. M. Confers Degrees. Terre Haute, Dec. 12.-—Among visiting hives which were guests of Grace Meredith hive, No. 121, of Terre Haute, at the district meeting of the Ladies of the Maccabees, was Hollister hive, No, 52, of Indianapolis, which conferred the first and third degrees. The visiting officers were Mrs. Grace Meredith, after whom hive No. 12l was naihed, state commander, of Wabash; Dr. Emma Hooper, supreme medical examiner, of Port Huron, Mich., and Mrs. Jessie Fager, supreme deputy commander, of Canton, Ohio. Hovius Held Without Bond. Bloomington, Dec. 12.—Clinton Hovius, slayer of former Fire Chief Frank Todd, given a preliminary hearing before Justice John E. Little, was remanded to circuit, court without bond. Dr. Robert C. Rogers, who was called to the home of Todd on the night of the shooting, the only witness summoned, told of finding Todd with a gunshot wound, and Hovius still in the house. The grand jury will take up the case and Hovius will be tried at the January term of court. Will Be Ordained Priest. Newcastle, Dec. 12.—Rev. W. Ernest Stockley, rector of St. James Protestant Episcopal church of Newcastle, will be ordained a priest in the Episcopal church Thursday morning by Bishop Francis at All Saints Cathedral in Indianapolis. Rev. Mr. Stockley was formerly a preacher of the Christian denominatibn, but became a convert to the Episcopal faith while pastor of a Muncie Christian church. Prefer Present System. Fort Wayne, Dec. 12. —Ministers of the city declared almost unanimously that moral conditions in the city are infinitely better now* than they were when there was a segregated vice district. The opinions w*ere brought out by efforts now* being made to return to the old regime. Physicians added their testimony to that of the ministers in declaring conditions better.
