Charles LeJune, Fremont, Ohio, was called to his home last week to attend the funeral of his grandmother. Paul Gleason has returned from Peru, Ind., his home, where he was called owing to the serious illness of his mother, whom he reports to be fast improving. While out playing with some other students, Leonard Firchette fell backwards over an embankment and broke his collar bone. Though the injury was not of a very serious Mature, he has gone to his home at Kankakee for surgical attention. The St. Xavier Athletic Association elected Joseph Kenkel basket ball manager. Four other members of the association were chosen as a regular assisting committee. The league teams will soon be organized, and the south' siders promise us a season of unusual and energetic basket ball exhibitions. On Monday night John Endres, whose home is in New York City, was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital, at Lafayette. He was suffering from a severe attack of appendicitis and was operated on early Tuesday morning. Later information reports him im a very favorable condition. Last Monday Edward Shields of Lawrenceville, 111., returned to resume his studies after an absence of four weeks taking treatment for his eye that was injured by a thrown acorn. His sight is not yet fully restored, but if no further complications set in, time will entirely mend the injured member. These visitors were with us during the week: Rev. T. M. Feldman, Chicago; Leo Friedel, Cleveland, O.; Misses Margaret and Charlotte Quinn, Ft. Wayne; Frank S. Whitcomb, Shelbyville; Mrs. J. Ambos and sons, Eugene and George, Hammond. Last Sunday evening the C. L. S. gave their best program of the year. The Glee Club made its Initial appearance and was at its best, entertaining all in a delightful manner. The main feature was the debate o® woman suffrage between Alois Brunswick and Herman Goldschmidt, the former winning. The band dispersed several of its choice selections. The comedy, “The Private Secretary,” is in preparation for Thanksgiving day, Sunday morning at a mass meeting of the Athletic Association, Harold Moran was elected general manager of tho basket ball. Daily games are now in progress as try-outs for' the varsity. If the spirit displayed and the euegry that the boys show in these games are any indication, St. Joseph will be represented by d stronger team this season than the record-breaking aggregation of last year. The schedule is not yet complete, hut it promises to be good and strong.
