Another White County Farmer Goes Wrong.
Much surprise was occasioned in the vicinity of Chalmers and Brookston the first of th© week when it became rumored about that John Stewart, one of the substantial farm renters of the prairie country, had gone to parts unknown to avoid the consequences of several alleged forgeries.
Among Stewart’s victims it is alleged are the Farmers’ and Traders’ Bank of Lafayette for $5,000 and J. C. Vanatta of Brookston for $2,000. He is also alleged to have placed a chattel mortgage oh a lot of property which did not belong to him. The names of his two sons-in-law are alleged to have been used on some of the paper without their knowledge or consent. Mr. Stewart is about 60 years old and we understand has always stood high in the estimation of those who know him.—-White County Democrat.
