Mr. and Mrs. Eli Arnold and family of Barkley tp., were Sunday guests of Elmer Sullenberger and family. Miss Helen Ward, a teacher at North Berwyn, 111., spent Sunday and Monday with Mrs >; Kate R. Watson and family. Miss Christine flume, who is teaching at Hoopeston, 111., spent Sunday here with her sister, Mrs. Ross Dean. Mrs. Mason Kenton of Mitchell, So. Dak., and Mrs. Isaac Parker went to Elwood Saturday to visit Mi s. T. F, Dunlap.
Miss Alice Shedd went to Chicago Monday, accompanied by Doctor Porter, Mfrs. Shedd’s brother, who has been visiting them. Mr. and Mrs. G. D. McCarthy went to Terre Haute Saturday to visit their son, Dr. Frank McCarthy, and family, returning home Monday evening. Eph Hickman went to North Judson Monday to finish up the work on the steam heating plants which C. W. Eger is installing for the Catholic priest there. N. S. Bates, W. F. Powers, W J. Wright and Vern Crisler returned Friday evening fom a few days outing on the Kankakee. They got about 25 mallard ducks. Mrs. Simon Fendig and mother, Mrs. Eugene Allen of Wheatfield, returned home Monday after a short visit here with Mrs. Mary Fendig, and daughter, Miss Rebekah Fendig.
S. E. Overton and family of South Haven, Mich., came down in their auto and spent Sunday with John Healy and family, returning home Monday, accompanied by Lon Healy who will make a short visit there. Walter English was up from Purdue to spend Sunday with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. E. C. English. He was carrying one arm in a sling, the result of having his shoulder blade broken recently in a football game. Word comes from Medford, Ore., of “Tess” Marshall, a son of George E. Marshall, formerly of this city, getting the thumb of his left hand blown off by the accidental discharge of a gun, while he was out hunting recently. Mrs. Many Pritchard and Mrs. Pickerel of Indianapolis, who have been visiting with Mrs. F. M. Parker, returned home Saturday. They expect to leave Indianapolis in about three weeks for a visit with relatives in Illinois. Mrs. Mary Harmon and granddaughter, Miss Etta Harmon, of Garrison, lowa, who have been visiting W k C. McCord and family at Indianapolis and Frank McCord and Chris Sack at Rensselaer, left Monday for their home. ,
A defective flue in the cook house' near the Roth Bros slaughter house Friday evening caused the building to catch on fire and the fire company was called to suppress theflames with chemicals, which was done with little damage ’o rhe building. Mr., and Mrs. Frank Alter, who have been in Indianapolis since last 'spring, returned to Rensselaer the latter part of the week and will again take up their residence here. Frank failed to register either in Indianapolis or here and therefore will not get to vote next Tuesday.
