Turfler Disguised by His Whiskers.

Dr. Turfler arrived here Friday noon direct from Orange county. New York. He did not even stop at home. The first thing he did after getting something to eat was to go to the barber and sacrifice his luxuriant growth of whiskers and mustache. His friends scarcely knew him when he appeared in the street. The crop was specially grown for the benefit of his parents and other relatives in York state and it so disguised him that he was not recognized at first. He says the best field of corn he saw while gone was in Lancaster county -and the next best here in White and Jasper counties. The hay and oats crops in the east, though, are immense. They grow about 7,000 acres -of onions around his old home town in New York and of all that he saw there, none were any better than his own Jasper county onions.—Montieello Journal.
