Fowler Man Proves “Easy” for Confidence Artists.
Indianapolis, July I.—When David Hinton of Fowler, Ind., was prevailed on to take a stroll Saturday afternoon, he found himself no match for two confidence men. When he returned to Mrs. Hintoi, at the union station, he was short $4 6. When he reported the affair at police station the only description of the confidence men he could give was that one was ‘‘popeyed and \ young,” and the other was “older.” Mr. and Mrs. Hinton were waiting for a train to Fowelr when they were approached by "the young stranger. Hinton, who is a farm “hand,” went for a stroll with the stranger. They met the other man outside the station, and the newcomer told this story of hard luck. He said he had packages in the express office, but must cash a check for $l5O before he could get them. He asked Hinton whether he could cash it. Hinton was flattered at the stranger’s estimate of him, and said he was sorry he had only S4G. After further conversation he handed the $46 to the older man, who gave him the check in exchange. Hinton and the younger man then went to cash the check/ As they passed the union station the stranger said Hinton “needn't bother,” for he would cash the check and bring Hinton the money. They separated, and he saw neither of them again.
