Jasper County Democrat, Volume 15, Number 18, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 5 June 1912 — Tom Is Not for Roosevelt. [ARTICLE]

Tom Is Not for Roosevelt.

We came near losing a dollar on Tom McCoy Saturday. We suggested to Fred Phillips that Tom had perhaps come down to run the Roosevelt campaign in Jasper county, and offered to guess Fred a dollar that Tom was a Roosevelt shouter. Fred, who is one of the most ardent admirers of the Rough Rider candidate in Rensselaer, swelled out and remarked that Tom was a man of pretty good judgment and he had no' doubt but what he really was for Roosevelt, and declined to take the bet. Just then A. L. Padgett came along and said that he had just been talking with Tom and he was most emphatic in' his opposition to Roosevelt; said he’d never vote for him if by hook or crook he got the nomination (which Tom later told the writer) and Fred then inferred that the reason Tom was against “Roosy” was perhaps be-

cause Roosevelt may have declined to pardon him out of prison. Anyhow, we saved our dollar.
