ALL READY FOR THE ROUND-UP
Democrat's Big Contest Closes Today [Saturday] at 8 p. m. GREAT INTEREST IN OUTCOME Which Is as Uncertain Apparently a$ It Was Months Ago— Result Will JBe Announced In Wednesday’s Democrat.
Tonight, at 8 p. m., will close The Democrat’s big voting contest, and everyone will agree that it has been the greatest and most' interesting contest every pulled off in this section of the state. Practically every man, woman and child in Jasper county has become interested in the contest, while hundreds of readers of The Democrat outside the county and state have taken great interest in the race. There are several fr ,changes in
the line-up this issue. Loretta Nagel, who has stood second for a long time, is superseded by Maribell Kays, ahd several of the other candidates charge places/ but whether temporary or not remains to be seen when the votes are all in tdnight. The closing days have been quite strenuous for the many cam didates in the race, and the way new subscriptions and renewals have been rolling in this week shows the work that is being done, %nd we regret that all cannot win the $350 Mahogany Piano. But of course all cannot hope to win. There are seven prizes—the $350 piano; $35 “Free” Sewing Machine; S2O Silver Set, and the cash prizes of SB, $4, $2 and $1 for those finishing 4th, sth, 6th . and 7th, respectively. The 24 candidates falling below seventh place will necessarilly- not be “in it” on the final count.
The winners will be those who' done the most individual hustling for votes, and who have had the most interested friends hustling for them. Who they will be we are as unable to guess at this time as anyone else. It all depends on the number of votes brought in today, the closing day of the contest. This contest has been a goodnatured one from , the start, and no matter how it ends the candidates will still all be friends. No votes will be received after 8 p. m., tonight. The Democrat office will be kept open until that hour to receive votes, but we request candidate to hand in what votes they have as much earlier than this-is possible. No candidate has or will be informed ( of the number of votes cast for[ another candidate, and the votes' received today cannot be counted at once, so the result will not be announced until the Wednesday issue.
