THE McNAMARA CONFESSIONS.

Probably the greatest and most far-reaching sensation of the century is the confession of guilt entered by the McNamara brothers at Los Angeles last Friday afternoon, when one confessed to having dynamited the Los Angeles Times building in 1910, by which 21 employes, of that paper lost their lives, and the other confessed to dynamiting the Lewellen Iron Works, on which charges they had each been inflicted and were being tried. It wast found-.that the prosecution “had the goods on them,” and to save their damnable necks from the halter their attorneys urged a confession. It was proposed to.let the-one 'off with'a life sentence and the other with a short prison term, and sentence was to be pronounced yesterday afternoon. If thev get off this easy, justice

should again hide her face in shame. Such crimes cannot go without adequate punishment, and the severeest penalty of the law should be meted out to them. C

From present indicates the investigations now being made both by the federal and state courts—the federal court at Indianapolis is now investigating the matter and the evidence un-

earthed will be placed before the federal grand jury which meets there in a few days—prominent labor leaders all over the country will become involved in the net. and the agility displayed by leaders of union labor now to climb on the band wagon and denounce the crimes, which it is now known were committed in labor's name, is significant. It would seem that a gigantic conspiracy has existed to destroy life and property to attain the ends of the fanatic leaders in the labor cause, and the disclosures now have reached a point where no one will be surprised at what is shown up next, and the investigators tell us that half has not.yet been disclosed. Of these crimes already learned of enough has been disclosed to rouse the law-abiding people, and the universal sentiment is that the guilty must be ferreted out and punished. Life and property must and will be protected in this country, and the unionist of anarchist tendencies has no place here and must not be tolerated.
