ANOTHER STRAW BOND

Put Up By Purtelle in the Newton Tp. Subsidy Election. Eugene Purtelle, the discredit-: ed president and promotor of the so-called Indiana Northwestern Traction Co., put up an “indemnifying bond” in the Newton tp., subsidy election matter Tuesday afternoon, and the county commissioners set Saturday, Oct. 14, as the date for said election. The “bond” is for SIOO and is signed “Indiana Northwestern Traction Co., Eugene Purtelle, ■President,” and by no one else. As Purtelle is the “company” as well as the president, and from all that is known of him is one of the nerviest dead-beats that ever came down the pike, this “bond” will not impress the public as very gilt-edged. A request was made by O. C. Halstead and B. M. Makeever, who circulated the petition for this election, and which was filed with the petition, . asking the commissioners not to order the the election until a good and sufficient bond was put up by Purtelle to cover the cost of the election, and the commissioners should not have ordered it on any such “bond” as that filed.
