DR. MERRILL DIES SUDDENLY
Well-Known Rensselaer Physician Found Dead In Bed DEATH FROM HEART DISEASE e> Brought On By Acute Indigestion —Had Been Ailing Since Sunday Evening—Burial Will Be Made Tomorrow In Chicago. > Dr. Merrill, one of Rensselaer’s best known physicians, died at his home on Front street some time Monday night, the ekact hour being unknown, as he was found dead in his bed by Mrs. Merrill at about 6 a. m., yesterday morning and an examination of the body showed that death had come several hours before he was found. Dr. Merrill had first complained Sunday evening of a pain in hjs chest, and hot applications were applied most of the night by Mrs. Merrill. Monday he felt better, but in the evening the pains came back to him and the hot applications were again resumed. About bed time he felt easier and Mrs. Merrill thought he had gone off to sleep. She heard nothing further from hijm and she herself got some' rest. Going to his room about six o’clock it was found that the death angel had stolen in during the night and the end had been peaceful. Heart trouble, brought on by acute indigestion is supposed to have caused his death. Dr. Merrilrivas born in Merrillville’, Lake county, Ind., April 27, 1857, and was therefore 54 years of age at his fast birthday. He had been located in Rensselaer in the practice of his profession for about ten years. He leaves a wife and two daughters, Miss Ina Merrill, of Rensselaer, and Mrs. R. M. Bennett, of Chicago. The body will lie in state at the family residence today from 12 to 2 p. m., where it can be viewed by friends of deceased, when funeral ceremonies by the Masonic lodge will be held and the body then taken to Chicago on the 3:15 train this afternoon, where burial will be made tomorrow in Oakwood cemetery at 2 p. m., the burial services being in charge of the F. & A.
