T . ■ V*4 Special Judge Marvin was over from Monticello Monday and rendered his decision in the hearing as to the public utility and practicability of the proposed Kankakee river ditch, officially known as the Horace Marble ditch. Judge Marvin held in favor of the petitioners on all points to date, as to the utility and practicability of the improvement, and the next thing in order is the hearing of the remonstrances. This will consume several weeks time, and then, no matter what the finding is, The case is practically sure to go to the supreme court ere it is finally settled. It was agreed to start hearing the remonstrances next Monday, beginning with Newton county. Jasper will follow Newton, then will Come Starke,, Porter, Laporte and Lake counties. The start will be made on the remonstrance hearing on the south side of the river, at the west fend of the proposed improvement, then follow along east, and back along the north side, which brings Lake county at the finish. It is expected to finish up Newton and Jasper counties the first week and Starke, Porter and Laporte perhaps the second week, bringing in Lake in the third week. The costs in this proposed improvement have already been a number of thousand dollars and promises to be several thousand dollars more before the final windup in the courts. Don’t fail to sign all coupbns received at the stores with the name of the candidate you wish to vote for, and sign and neatly trim coupons cut from The Democrat as well, before handing them in. These last should be trimmed as squarely as possible with the scissor.
