j GOODLAND { -i 1— (From the Herald.) Henry Butler was taken suddenly sick Wednesday morning. George Hannibal and family spent Sunday with home folks in Remington. Mrs. Henry Farrel and children of Wolcott visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. John Bailey. John Condon and two daughters, Lucille and Helena, autoed down from Momence, 111., Wednesday. Mrs. Ira Hoover, who is taking treatment at the St. Elizabeth hospital in Lafayette, is making marked improvements. Mrs. Nason Turner passed through Goodland Tuesday enroute to her home in Brook after a visit with relatives in Remington. John Sage and Barney Clark were Rensselaer callers last Friday. They made a visit at the Warren Sage farm _south of that city.
Mrs. Carrie Hartman returned to her home in Monticello Thursday morning after a short visit here with Mir. and Mrs. A. C. Tedford. Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Walker will return to Goodland this Saturday after spending several weeks at Tacoma, Wash., and other coast points. ‘Mrs. S. P. Speece and daughter Helen of Ft. Wayne came Monday for a two weeks visit here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Townsend. Mr. and Mr®. James Lawson of Ft. Wayne came Sunday for a week’s visit here with the latter’s sisters, Mrs. B. S. Rice and Mrs. E. M. Childers. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Welch and daughter of Wabash, came Tuesday evening for a «hort visit here with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. /Welch. Major and Mrs. A. A. Whissen of Little Rock, Ark., came to Goodland this Friday for a visit here with the J. W. Baer_and M. L. Humston families. Mrs. Wim. Rice and little daughter left Thursday for a month’s visit with relatives in Chicago, and with Mr. and Mrs. Ira Rinker at Canton, 111., and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Peckham at Park, 111.
Mrs. John Cooke and son Johnny returned Tuesday from Indianapolis where they spent several days visiting with L. H. Jordan and family. Mr. Jordan accompanied by Mr. Geyer, T. P. Agt. of the Panhandle railroad came through with them in his Marmon touring car. Mrs. Fred James, who has been spending several weeks at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. 'Misses- Madge and Ethel Wolfe went to Medaryville Thursday morning to visit relatives. Miss Ethel Bosh of Kentland came Monday evening to visit her sister, Mrs. J, M. Biesecker. Miss Iva Winters went to Morocco Monday evening to visit Mrs. C! M. Tuttle and other friends. Misses Gertrude and May Burk of Goodland came Tuesday evening to visit uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Burk.
Mrs. Mary Pugh of Bluffton, who has been visiting her son, Ed Pugh, was the guest of her neice, Mrs. Alice Burling, over Sunday and returned to her son’s Tuesday evening. Mrs. J. C. Warner of Chicago Heights came Saturday to visit a couple of weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry St. Peter, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Warner. Lawrence .Troxel and Miss Lillian Rader spent Sunday with Henry Brooks and family at Remington. In the evening the party enjoyed an automobile ride to Rensselaer and (jroodland, and then to Wolcott.!

Mrs. Martha McMurray and children went to Cambria yesterday to visit relatives. Mrs. W. C. Calvert and guest, Miss Marie Gates, were visitng in Monon Monday. Mrs. B. H: Thompson and children went to Goodland Tuesday to visit her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hooker and children of Rensselaer were guests of relatives here Sunday, v Miss Leola Calvert of Huntington is the guest of Mrs. W. C. Calvert since Monday^evening. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Spencer were over from near Rensselaer Saturday - and 'Sunday visiting relatives. Mrs.- William Schleman and Miss Florence Hollett left Tuesday night for Colorado Springs, Colo. Their sister, Miss Lucile Hollett, who is in a sanitorium there for relief from* tuberculosis, has suddenly despaired of ultimate recovery and wrote asking them to come and visit her. It is to be hoped that their presence will have much to do in cheering her up and hasten her improvement. Carl A. Nelson and Joseph L. Beesley of this place have asked that the circuit court grant a restraining order against Auditor Munchenburg to prevent him paying $261 to the two Held examiners whcf examined the books of the Francesville corporation. The complaint sets out the fact that plaintiff’s believe the accounting law unconstitutional, and ther<g6ore the exatainers should not bn paid for their work,

S. excursion to Michigan City last Thursday. Nathan Eldridge of Rensselaer was the guest of his nephew, Grant Eldridge, and wife last Thursday. Mrs. L. H. Long and baby of Glendale, Cal., is here the guest of her husband’s mother, Mrs. Joanna Long, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Clark and son Ernest of Brook were the guests of Mrs. Clark’s parents, Mr: and Mrs. Peter Owen, last week. Mrs. Alexander Hamilton left Tuesday morning for Wheatfteld where she will visit her son and daughter, Ward Hamilton, and Mrs. G. W. Ferguson. The Horner family automobiled over to Remington last Sunday, returning in the evening with the exception of Mrs. E. W. Horner who will stay for a longer visit with her daughter, Mrs. A. E. Malsbary, and family. Mrs. F. W. Hackley, Mrs. E. O. Banker and three children of Derry, Pa., and Mrs. Warren M. Brown of Bloomington, 111., arrived here last Wednesday for a visit with their sen and brother, Dr. R. P. Hackley, and family.
On Wednesday evening at 8:00 o’clock, at the home of Elder J. E. Knotts, in the presence of a few immediate relatives, Mr. Roy Watson was united in marriage bo Miss Elva Pullins. The bride is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Pullins, and is well and favorably known in this community, and the groom is a young farmer of Gillam tp., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Watson, and he also enjoys an excellent reputaiion.
| MT. AYR. -I 1(From the Pilot.) Mr. and Mr®- Lesley Miller from court-house-town spent a few days in this, place since our last issue. Will Wooley and wife of Brook came up for an evening call with Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Ashby, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Miller went to Chicago Tuesday to buy a complete housekeeping outfit from a parlor suite down to patent dust pan. Jap Wright shipped two car loads from Morocco Sunday. They were the Chamberlain cattle, • forty head and tipped the beam at King’s scales at 1318 each. iMesdames J. Sigler and C. H. Stucker were viewing the beauties to behold in the display windows of the millinery parlors and big department stores Tuesday at Rensselaer. Ira Sayler will finish his new cottage this week and turn the keys to W. W. Miller who will move to the same as soon as their new household paraphanalia puts in its appearance. .

Etta and Jennie Harwell spent Tuesday afternoon with Nellie Hanna. Belle and Jessie Southard spent Tuesday afternoon with Maud bins. John Mitchell and son Carl were guests of John Southard Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Will Vanatta took dinner Sunday with John Southard and family. George Caster and wife and Mirs. Emma Dignan were Remington callers Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Truman Eldridge of Wolcott took dinner Sunday with M/ode Dobbins. Mrs. Grant Pollock and Mrs. Hattie Miles spent last Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Wan. Miles.
Mrs. Minta Hemphill and children are guests of the former’s father, Mode Dobbins, this week. Mance Beaver and son Harold spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coghill of near Rankin. Mrs. * John Sommers, Sr., Mrs. Chas. Sommers and Mrs. John Johnson were Wolcott guests Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Saltwell spent Sunday at Mt. Zion with their daughter, Mrs. Fay Lear, who is quite sick. Miss Ruth Vick of near Rensselaer was a guest of her grandmother, Mrs. Chas. Sommers, Sr., the last two weeks. Truman Eldridge is beginning to tile his pasture with the intention of plowing up the same and seeding it down in grass this fall. Earl Foulks, Glen McKinley, Walter Gilmore, Vern Culp, Belle and Jessie Southard attended services at Sunday evening. Miss Templeton, Mias Hazel Templeton and gentlemen friends of Mt. Zion were in attendance at Milroy services Sunday afternoon.
There will be an ice-cream social at the Milroy church Saturday evening, July 29, for the purpose of getting new song book®. Everybody invited. Chas. Beaver and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Southard, Mr. ’ afid and Mrs. Ed McKinley and Rev. McCorkle called on Mrs. Elizabeth Johns Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Beaver and three daughters, Goldie, Sylvia and Dollie, Anna and Earl Caster, Mr. Harwell and family spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hamilton. An all day’s basket meeting will be held at the Milroy cburch next Sunday. Rev. Morrow of Morocco will conduct the services. Everyone cordially invited to come and bring well filled baskets.

Clyde Gunyon, who has been on the sick list, is up and around again. Rev. J. Jenkins of Michigan, formerly of Parr, held /services at the church here Sunday evening. Miss Anastatia Carlon, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. J. Lakin, returned home Sunday. A dance was given after band concert Friday evening, and about 3 ft. young folks were, present. —| REMINGTON. - Fountain Park Assembly will open August 12 and continue 15 days. Oats are turning out quite well about Remington according to reports. Mr. and Mrs. Frank O’Connor [ of Green Bay, Wis., are visiting relatives here. C. E. Downey of Wheatfield was in Remington last week on M. W. A. business. Mrs. Mary Pugh of Bluffton visited her sister, Mrs. . Alice Burling, here a few days last week. A. H. Littlefield and family of Orange, Cali., were recent guests of his mother and brother here. Howard Jones and daughter Esther left Thursday for a visit with Ms sister at Washington, Pa. Samuel Johnston of Washington Court House, Ohio, is visiting his brother, William Johnston and family. George St. Pierre and daughter, Miss Gladys, of Chicago visited Mr. and Mrs. William Sharkey here last week. (M. A. Gray is in North Dakota at this writing superintending the erection of a new house on his farm near Jamestown. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Rich visited their sons, J. D. and Frank and families, at Brook and Goodland, respectively, last week. Miss Ida Beal visited last week with her sisters, Mrs. W. J. Dick, of Watseka, and Mrs. L. M. Raymond, of St. Anne, 111. Mrs. Davidson and daughter, Miss Ella, of Hopkinsville, Ky., returned home last week after a visit with Rev. and Mrs. E. H. Bull. iMrs. William Pender and children of Magdalena, New Mexico, left for home last Tuesday after an extended visit with her father, Robert Irwin. Editor and Mrs. J. R. McCullough have taken charge of the Remington Hotel, and there will be one well fed editor in the county at least.
Mrs. - Edward Smith of Tacoma, Wash., who had been Visiting here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kneadler, returned home Wednesday. Wm. Lyons was brought here ijrom. near McCoysburg last week very sick and in a semi-conscious condition, fronr which at this writing he has not recovered. George Sigo, who has been living in North Dakota, writes home that crops in his locality are a complete failure and that he expects to return to God’s country this fall. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Welch and daughter of Wabash visited their respective parents in this vicinity last week, George Welch and wife of near Goodland and Ben Lilvas and wife of near Remington. L. H. Tyler’s farm house southwest of town caught fire from a defective flue on Tuesday morning of last week, but the flames were extinguished with the assistance of neighbors before much headway had been gained. The new bank here is to be located in the Dan O’Connor building on South Ohio street, and is expected to be open for business by Sept. 1. Lafayette and Monon parties are behind the project.
WALKER CENTER. We had a good rain in these parte Sunday. Alva Hall was seen driving on our streets Sunday* Miss Marie ' Wilmington and Mrs. Anderson are visiting in Chicago. Percy Coleman and family ate dinner Sunday with O. R. Wallace and family. Miss Edna Wallace and brother Stephen called on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reed Sunday evening. Miss Edna Wallace, who has been working at Hoopeston, 111., the past six months, came Saturday for a visit at the home of her parents, O. R. Wallace and family.
