POTATO FAMINE
In Texas Necessitates Importing Three Ship Loads. Galveston, Texas, June 30. Three ship loads of potatoes have been ordered from Scotland and Ireland to relieve the spud famine in Texas, which has run the price in Texas to $1.75 per bushel, and threatens to put the price at $3. The importation will amount to abput 3,000,000 bushels. Texas d6es not raise enough potatoes >ts own consumption and 't'Ois year shipped train loads to Northern markets early in the season. Failure of the crops in North Texas, Oklahoma and the Kaw Valley brought about the present conditions, and the uncertainty of the Colorado crop, which is not due until September, aggravated the market.
