I FAIR OAKS. | The high wind Monday blew down several telephone poles here in town on the Halleck line. Tom Johnson is over in Newton county helping to build" a grade for the new stone road. Mrs. Lyman Zea and son Ernest of Rensselaer came up Sunday to attend meetings at Will Warren’s. Bert Warren went down about Kokomo Saturday to begin a series of meetings, we have been informed. Mrs. John White and little daughter of Demotte came down Wednesday evening and stayed all night with her brother, Charles Halleck. Mr. Mace of Lebanon, who bought the Keener land near town last fall and also Cal Borough’s property, moved here and took possession last week. We sure got another one of those March days Monday. A very high wind with rain and snow blew a greater part of the day, and a pretty hard freeze followed. Reason Dunn’s sale went off all O. K. Tuesday and property sold well, it is said. He is moving to town this week, and Bart Crawford is moving out where Dunn lived. Abe Bringle, the mail carrier, received a brand-new mail wagon last week and pressed it into service at once. It is a dandy, and made by the Herrington Mfg. Co. at Peoria, 111. Abe Bringle received word Monday his nephew, Glen Moffitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Moffitt of Davenport, X. D., had died March 22 after an operation for appendicitis in a hospital at Fargo, No. Dak,, some four weeks previous. Roy Casey and Hazel Helsel were the last couple up to date who have decided to share one another’s burdens through life. The weiJing took place kt Rensselaer Monday. Come again, brother. We were informed Tuesday that Charles Pen weight’s daughter Madaline, who has been living at Kankakee, 111., had died in a hospital after an operation for gall stones. The body was shipped to her childhood home, Mt. Ayr and laid away in North Star cemetery. We desire to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives. She was raised apd schooled at Mt. Ayr and was very highly esteemed and admired by a large number of people in the vicinity.
NEW CENTER. — |— John Sommers, Sr. was a Wolcott goer last Thursday. A daughter was born Friday, Meh. 24- to Mr. and Mrs. Manson Beaver Mary Miles and Jessie Southard visited in Wolcott Saturday afternoon. Mrs. William Miles called on Mrs. Isaac Hamilton last Friday afternoon. - Elmer Clafk and family spent last Friday with I. J, Clark and family, Miss Mary Miles is taking music lessons of Miss Mabel Hufty near Wolcott. Jaaob Beaver of near Reniington hauled hay from this, vicinity last Thursday. Mrs. Wnk Miles and daughter Mary did shopping in Wolcott Thursday afternoon. Ernest Miles spent Sunday and Monday at Rensselaer with his uncle, Webb Jackson and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jphn Tow of Gifford spent Wednesday night and Thursday with Geo. .Caster and family. Chas. Howell returned Wednesday from Piper City, 111., where he went for the purpose of bringing a horse back with him. :
Mr. and Mrs. Oppie, Jacob Spitzler, James May, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Latta and children were Wolcott guests Saturday afternoon. Grandma Caster, after spending a few days with her son George and family, returned to her home at Brookston Saturday morning.

Mrs. Amanda Leech is spending a few days in Logansport. Mrs. John Price has returned from her visit to Dakota. Miss Lena Schultz called on Olga Schreeg Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Rebecca Hurley spent a few days with Roy Hurley and family. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Gant were Rensselaer goers Saturday. Marion purchased a new cow. Miss Olga Schreeg called on Marie King Tuesday, the latter taking music lessons from Miss Schreeg. , Harry Thomas, Charles and Victor Brusnahan and Luvia Gunyon called on Otto and Olga Schreeg Thursday evening. Otto and Olga Schreeg and Clyde and Luvia Gunyon spent Sunday with Arnold and Elizabeth Luers of near Rensselaer.

tended the funeral here Wednesday of Mrs. Harriet Jacks. Cassie Hojeman and little sister Mabie of Monticello visited their , grandmother, Mrs. C. A. Holeman, last Saturday and Sunday. Mrs. C. A. Holeman started Tuesday afternoon for McLean, Texas, to make an extended visit with her daughter, Mrs. Ola Parcels, and family. Ed ward Culp and wife of Remington came over Saturday evening in their auto to be at the bedside of his sister, Mrs. Harriet Jacks, and remained until after her death and burial. , Mrs. Grace Lefler of Lafayette has been here during the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Jacks, and also helping to care for her grandmother, Mrs. Harriet Jacks, in her last sickness and death. March 28, 1911, in the very early hours of the morning, the life of Mrs. Harriet Jacks left this world of sin and suffering to join her husband, T. P. Jacks, whose sudden death occurred last fall. She gradually went down from that time, and lung trouble set in and she took pneumonia which was the cause of her death, at the home of her son, G. A. Jacks of this place. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. D. E. Noland of Rolling Prairie and Rev. Kuonen of this place. A very large crowd of relatives and friends paid their last respects to all that was mortal of the faithful Christian life of the departed one. The remains were laid to restin the Osborne cemetry.
| SOUTH NEWTON. Arthur Mayhew spent Sunday in Brook. Arthur Mayhew helped Fred Waling haul hay last week. Miss Sadie Paulus called on Mrs. Clarence Pruett Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Reed visited, with Philip Paulus and family Sunday. Philip Paulus and Milton Grimes called on Earl Leek Monday afternoon. Mrs. Arthur Powell called on her sister,' Mrs. Fred Waling, last Thursday afternoon. Arthur Powell and wife and Mrs. Alice Potts took Sunday dinner with Press Roberts and family. Little Albert Jenkinson is able to be out now after being laid up all winter with a broken limb. Arthur Mayhew, the road supervisor, got busy last week scraping the roads with road drags. Mrs. Alice Potts of Rensselaer spent Saturday night with her brother, Arthur Powell and wife. Chas. Waling and daughter Carrie of Brook visited with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mayhew Saturday. Mir. and Mrs. Clarence Pruett spent Sunday with the former’s sister, Mrs. Earl Clinton and family near Brook. Henry Paulus of near Morocco called on his brother Philip last Thursday. He was enroute to Rensselaer on a business mission. A preliminary meeting will be held at No. 6 school house Sunday, April 2, at two o’clock, to arrange for organizing Sunday school. Everybody is cordially invited to attend.

Hazel Jones visited with Miss Goldie Gunyon over Sunday. • Halley Alter and best girl attended church at Parr Thursday evening. v t Several from Rosebud have been attending the meetings at Parr this week. Everett Burns visited with Misses Margie and Gertie Rardip Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith visited with their daughter, Mrs. Andy Myers Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. >S. Rardin are expected home from Sheridan this evening. They have been at the bedside at the former’s mother who has been very sick, but is better at this • writing.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krueger took in Rensselaer Saturday. Paul L. Schultz was in Rensselaer On business Wednesday. Albert Hurley called on Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schultz Tuesday. Will Teska called on his cousin, Paul Schultz, Sunday afternoon. Adolfe Schultz and son Arthur were Rensselaer goers Monday. Mrs. Fred Krueger called on her aunt, Mrs. Adolfe Schultz Tuesday. Max Schultz has begun his year’s work for Omar Kenton of near Surrey. Ernest Comer is breaking mules nowadays. That’s a good job, Ernest. . f A. R. Schultz hauled a couple of loads of hay from near Gifford Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. August Makus called on Paul Schultz and family Wednesday. Alva Potts and August Makus attended R. Dunn’s sale up near Fair Oaks Tuesday.
1 Mrs. Amiel Herre and two children spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Michael Schultz. Paul, A. R. and Julius Schultz attended R. M. Dunn’s sale up near Fair Oaks Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schultz and family took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krueger Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Stibbe visited up near Demotte a day or two last week, returning home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hall of Roselawn visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schultz a day or two last week. Mrs. Michael Schultz and daughter, Mrs. Amiel Herre called on Adolfe Schultz and family Tuesday. Amiel Stibbe of Valparaiso came Monday to look after some business and visit friends and relatives, returning Wednesday. Monday we had another blustery day and enough freeze to stop plowing Tuesday. Just enough winter th s week to prevent the farmers sowing oats. March certainly has not been May this time.

Leo Colvert, Charles Porter and Miss Edna Babcock were guests of Miss Ocie Wood Sunday. There will be a temperance lecture at the church on Sunday afternoon, April 2. Everybody invited. Mrs. Amanda Leech and son John returned Thursday from Logansport where they spent a few days with her son Albert.,
William Alyres and son. Harvey were in Roselawn .Monday on business. Harvey is thinking of locating there to run a soft drink and confectionary store. The revival meetings at the school house are being largely attended but no new members have been added as yet. Rev. Schaefer is conducting the services with the assistance of Rev. Sherril of Battle Ground. Mrs. W. L. Wood and Mattie Porter returned Wednesday from West Baden where they have been spending the last week. ’ They also visited Blanche Babcock at Greencastle. Mrs. Wood is feeling much better and has made quite an improvement. Miss Ocie Wood has had her hands quite full as her mother has been away for her health and the clerk, Earl Bruner, took sick and went home for a two weeks vacation. She has employed Maggie Wheelen to assist her in the store for a few days.

John Wildrick is hauling his lumber from the saw mill this week. James Pritchett spent Sunday night with friends in this vicinity. Samuel Butts and family called on Carl Wooton and family Wednesday.

It adds quite an improvement to his farm. Several of the young folks of this vicinity attended the party given at Otto Adams’ Saturday night.
