Jfimes Reilly of the New York Athletic club, not satisfied with running Charles M. Daniels, “the human fish,” a close sei <md in ail round swimming in New York recently has become ambitious to defeat Harry Helmer of Chicago, champion, in the back stroke. The Mercury Foot .man has. shown exceptional speed at this style of natation and believes that with a little more practice he can take the measure of the westerner. As Hebner now holds the world’s record of 1 minute 56 2-5 seconds for the classic 150 yards distance, a defeat by Reilly would give the latter claim to international supremacy. Walsh After Weston’s Walking Record. Sergeant John Walsh of New York is walking to San Francisco and return in an effort to break Edward Payson Westoii’s record. Walsh is fiftyeight years old and has been thirty years in the army. He is to receive $2,000 if he succeeds in lowering the transcontinental record. It is bis fourth trip across the continent. He says he will follow the southern route. In 1892 he walked from Fort Leavenworth to Boston, then to Mare island in 110 days. In 1898 he walked from coast to coast in 90 days. In his last effort he walked from Salt Lake City to Portland, Me., in 88 days. The distance for the latter trip was 3,G00 miles. Weston’s record for the round trip from coast to coast is 185 days, 77 days from west to east and 108 days from east to west.

All Nation Baseball Team. The Cosmopolitan club of the University of Pennsylvania, composed of students from all sections of the world, more than twenty nations being represented, have decided to form a baseball team for the coming season. S. T. Kim of Korea is the manager of the team. Not more than one man will be allowed from any one country. The .Chinese students are endeavoring to get S. T. Yang, one of their number, on the team. Curling Trophy Valued at $1,200. The Canadian Life curling trophy represents the single rink championship oflj'oronto and is open to all members of clubs in that city. It is a gold cup valued at Si,2GO. It becomes the property of the club winning it most times in twelve years. Queen City lias won it three times—J. C. Scott in 1907, H. A. Haisley in 1908 and R. Rennie in 1909. Graniteshave won it twice— W. E. McMurtry in 1906 and T. Rennie in 1910. lowans Organize to Preserve Game. lowa sportsmen organized at . Des Moines the Polk County Conservation and Sportsmen’s association, having for its object the preservation of the lakes and forests of lowa, restocking of the fields and waters of the state with game and fish and the establishment of an efficient game warden system. Gray Is Youthful Billiard Expert George Gray, the youthful Australian billiard marvel now playing the English style of game in England, has up to date made eleven breaks exceeding 1,000 points.
