ENGINEER JUMPS TO DEATH
Wreck on C. A O. Near Richmond Causes Heavy Property Loss. Richmond, Ind., Jan 20.—Engineer R. W. Haines, 26 years old, of Peru, lnd„ was killed and thirteen freight cars demolished in a wreck of freight train No. 1206 on the C. & O. railroad about a mile north of Richmond* caused by the spreading of rails In Thistlethwaite's cut. Haines tried to escape by jumping after putting on the brakes He called to the other members of the crew to jump, but none of them did so and none was injured. The track is a mass of wreckage and the roadbed badly torn up, blocking traffic Trains are being detoured over the G. R. & I. tracks to Lynn, thence over the Big Four to Louisville, where there ii.p" junction with the C. & 0. tracks.
