THE COURT HOUSE
Items Picked Up About the County Capitol The delinquent tax list is quite large in Jasper county again this year. The greatest delinquency is that of B. J. Gifford, whose large holdings are held for $ 12,000 delinquent taxes. The next greatest delinquent is the Warren Springer ranch in Walker tp., with $853. Every township in the county is represented in the list, but Carpenter, Marion and Newton have only one delinquent each, and Jordan two.
New suits filed: No. 1696. Chicago Title & Trust Co. vs. David R. Miller; suit on judgment. Demand $174.46 and interest from May 23, 1906. No. 7697. Orpha Thompson vs. Walter S. Thompson; action for divorce. © The plaintiff alleges that they were married in Jasper county Oct. 24, 1908, and parted May 31, 1910, when because of cruel and inhuman treatment she was compelled to leave defendant, who accused her of being untrue to her marriage vows, threatened to knock her d—head off, etc., etc. Defendant is al leged to be working by the month at Longeliff, near Logansport, while plaintiff is at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hall of Jordan tp. —O— At last we’ve heard from the “Sinitor” from the Jasper, Newton, Starke and White district this session. Monday he voted against the joint resolution for the adoption of the constitutional amendment for an income-?; tax —the only vote cast against the measure in (the senate—and next day he introduced a bill to amend the Beardsley law to make public the prescriptions of druggists. This bill, should it become a law, Abe thinks, will have a tendency to make physicians more careful about giving prescriptions for liquor to patients afflicted with an abnormal thirst. It is an improvement over his township and county dredge bill of last session, and we’re all fer it up here, Abe. Just keep on hammering away on this bill —if it doesn’t do any good it can’t do much harm.
