CURTIS CREEK. Mrs. Geo. Heuson has returned home from a visit in Ohio. Mr. Weiss and son of Brook visited Sunday with Chas. Weiss and family. Daddy Francis sold his fine bunch of hogs this week. Reuben Yeoman, Randolph Wright and] Preston Roberts were in Mt. Ayr Tuesday. Miss Eva Kenton of Mitchell, S. D., has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Fannie Parker. Coonie Markin visited Saturday night and Sunday with his sister, Mrs. Robt. Overton. Allie Francis, Harrie Dennison and Warner Hough visited Sunday with Sidney Holmes and family. Misses Sarah and Virginia Holmes visited Sunday with Misses Elsie and Zera Smith of north of town. Calvin Shigley arrived at S. B. Holmes’ Monday night. He has been in South Dakota for a year and a half. Owing to the snow storm last Wednesday night, only about two-thirds of the crowd attended the party at uncle Shelby Grant’s. Those that were there report a good time.
SURREY. Roy Lewis was a hub goer Saturday. Jay Nowels was a Rensselaer goer Saturday. C. Norman is hauling corn to the clevatoi\ for Roy Lewis. Everett Green is husking corn for Wm. Walters at present. Corn hushing will soon be a thing of the pastin this locality. Mr. and Mrs. Estel Osborne were hub goers Saturday afternoon.. ; •Miss Pearl Holmes’ “best friend” spent Sunday evening with her. Mrs. W. B. Holmes and son Howard, were, Rensselaer goers Saturday. • Mr. and Mrs. Everett Green called on Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Holmes Sunday.
urday. Hollis Holmes has never got able to return to school yet since his recent sickness. Will Kennedy and wife assisted Mack Sullivan and wife in butchering Saturday. Jay Nowels and John Osborne were seen going east Sunday evening. What’s the attraction, boys? Howard Holmes seems to be the luckiest fellow in our locality. He was seen with a load of rabbits since the snow fell.
MILROY. W. P. Gaffield called on G. L. Parks Thursday. Rev. Kuonen spent Sunday night with George Foulks. Robert Templeton called Monday on Thomas Spencer. Born, Dec. 5, to Mr. and Mrs. Branson Clark, a son. Miss Ethel Lewis of Lee sewed this week for Mrs. Abersol. James BOonje shredded corn for A. Griswold this week. Nelson Anderson called bn George Wood Monday evening. P. M. McAleer of Henry, 111., visited W. P. Gaffield this week. Mr. and Mrs. Vanatta attended church here Sunday evening. A. Griswold and John Shide are husking corn for G. L. Parks. Orville Holeman and Myrtle Lewis attended church Sunday evening. Mrs. Ed May and little son Hollis spent Thursday with Mrs. G. L. Parks. ' ' Charles Balcom and Wm. Roadifer ate supper Sunday evening with G. L. Parks. James Culp arid family of Lee visited Sunday with his brother, W. E. Isaac Hamilton lost a valuable cow last Wednesday. Listen for the sound of the wedding bells in S. A. soon. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Caster did shopping in Wolcott Saturday. Miss Ina Becker spent last Sunday with Mrs. Williard Johnson. Earl Foulks of Monon was a Sunday School visitor at Milroy Sunday. Wiley Latta and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Will Vannatta. Miss Jessie Southard called on Mrs. . Will Vannatta Sunday afternoon. Mrs. James A. May and Mrs. John Southard were Rensselaer visitors Saturday. Miss Nellie Hiatt of Kokomo, came Saturday for a few days visit with her aunt, Mrs. Nick Digman. Ernest Miles is assisting his bro-ther-in-law, Grant Pollock of near Wolcott, with his corn husking this week. Mr. and Mrs. George Beaver and children and Mr. Jake Beaver spent Sunday with Isaac Hamilton and family. Mr. and Mrs. Will Vannatta and Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Latta and children attended church at Milroy Sun day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Robertson. Orville Holeman and Miss Myrtle Lewis of McCoysburg, and Miss Della Knapp, the Lone Star teacher, attended church at Milroy last Sunday evening. , ■■■ ■ ■ ... ——— — Milroy Sunday School has dec’ded tc observe Christmas day by having a- Christmas tree on ■ Christmas eve. Joseph Grooms, Thomas Spencer, Geo. Foulks, and John Southard were appoined as the committee to look after the tree. We extend a cordial invitation to all to come and thke part, as it will be considered a union Christmas tree. Thomas Spencer informs us that we must all be more regular in attendance at Sunday School, especially the main leaders, as it is as he says: “When they fail to come, it makes it more discouraging for the rest,” and if we are all as faithful as Tom has been and he has not missed a Sunday since our school was organized. We can all be as prompt as he is if we just make it our main study.
FAIR OAKS. Mrs. Charles Halleck is on the sick list this week. ' Enos Moffitt butchered a beef for Al Moore Monday. Will Warren is unloading another car of coal for F. R. Erwin. Frank Cox of Rensselaer spent Sunday here with home folks. A few of our young people are preparing for a Christmas tree. G. I. Thomas of Remington made • business call here Wednesday. Miss Lulu Williams, who has been up to Chicago for a month, came home Saturday. Bruce Moffitt arrived from North Dakota Saturday evening. He is back on a business trip. We are having very good winter weather nowadays. We got another light snow Saturday. Mr. Noland of Lee and Ernest Zea-of Rensselaer were among those out of,town in attendance at the meeting, at Will Warren’s Sunday. Benj. Flock and daughter left here Monday morning for Hibbard where they will visit for a week before leaving for their home in Washington. ——. —— Miss Pennington, our primary teacher, attended the box social at Parr Saturday night, and visited with Miss Clara Brusnahan until Monday morning' Mrs. William Cottingham went to Danville last week to join her husband where they will begin housekeeping. Will’s mother accompanied her there. Mrs. John Kimble of Michigan, who has been visiting relatives and frends at Parr, Surrey and Rensselaer, came up here Wednesday to visit friends for a few days. Oliver Brouhard and family were the last to return from North Dakota. They arrived Saturday evening. Joe Winslow and family are still there and will probably remain there until spring. Calvin Boroughs and family, who moved from here a couple of years ago .down about Moore’s Hill, in the southern part of 1 the state, came back to Fair Oaks last week. We gladly welcome them back. Mrs. Nate, Keen, who lives a couple of miles east of town, marketed 66 tnrVpva Thanksgiving week which netted her the sum of $183.85. She has about 20 yet to ship. The turkey crop surely has been a profitable crop for them this year.
SCHULTZ SETTLEMENT. Paul Schultz was a Rensselaer goer Monday. Fred Schultz shredded corn Wednesday afternoon. ——’ —- Paul and Chris Schultz were Rensselaer goers Friday. Fred Schultz helped James Meyers shred corn Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Adolf Schultz were Rensselaer goers Tuesday. There was a . large turn out at the German church Sunday. Michael Schultz was out calling cn his children Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs.. John Stibbe attended church at Kniman Sunday. Fred and Arthur Schultz took dinner with their grandfather Saturday. Barney Comer is hauling corn home from his north farm up near Virgie. Miss Hilda Stanka took dinner with William Schultz and family Sunday. Mrs. R. Teska and son Will called on Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultz Sunday afternoon. George Casey was in our settlement Friday canvassing for his sister, .Miss Fern. Mrv aqd Mrs. Haas and Mr. and Mrs. Stanka took dinner in our settlement Sunday. A. R. Schultz hauled a load of corn to Parr Friday. Didn’t have crib room, he says. Edward Ritter and son Rudolph took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Julius Schultz Sunday. Mrs. Adolf Schultz, Mrs. Frei Krueger and Antina Schultz called on Mrs. William Schultz Friday. Fred Krueger finished husking corn down on Pleasant Ridge this week, having worked 13days for S4O. The occupation of the boys in our settlement nowadays is trapping and hunting. One boy even boasted of getting a bunch of hair in his trap one morning. Peter Wolfe and some friend* of Hammond came Tuesday to spend a few days with bis neice, Mrs. A. R.
