COLLEGEVILLE ITEMS.
Tuesday. Nov. 1. the feast of all Saints, being a holiday, there, will be no classes. _ Rev. A. Weyman, U.PP.S., on Wednesday returned from .St. Anthony’s Hospital, Chicago, entirely recovered from the effects of the operation, and at once took up again the work of his various classes. Rev. I. A. Wagner, C.PP.S., left’ for the Catholic University, Washington, D. C.. to continue his scientific and mathematical studies. The following visitors were entertained at the college during the last week: Rev. N. Felden, J. MeArdle, Monroeville. Ind., Mrs. Hugh McCaffrey, Peru Ind., John R. Welsh, Mrs. Alice Welsh and Miss Anne Welsh, Francis O’Reilly, Thos. Darmody, Indianapolis, Miss Rosa Beck, Mrs. Mary Curran. Rensselaer. While passing through Rensselaer, Mr. J. W. Kern stopped long enough at the college to give the students a pleasant and instructive talk on the necessity of forming a strong and firnv eharacler in their youthful days. It was ingeniously illustrated by many incidents from his own varied career. The impression that Mr. Kern succeeded in making on his hearers was, indeed, favorable.
The football game last Sunday in which the varsity defeated the ken.'sUner team by the decisive sco - c of 28 to 0 was fad and ai times far rougher than necessary. The local team is showing wonderful improvement since Coach Kirk has taken charge of their plays. All the players were green at the game when‘he was engaged and, therefore, the the last performance speaks well* of his coaching abilities, and ol the application and attention yiven by his raw material to football work.
The frequently announced game with the Goodland A. A. is again advertised for next Sat urday afternoon. The over-state team has always found some excuse for not appearing, but now
there is ,jio World Series of base ball games in progress and the sick “gag” has been overworked, so that there is a possibility that the aggregation will put in its belated appearance on the date announced. The game will be called at 2:30. Admission 25 cents.
