Last week while John Bailey was re-shingling a house on Mat Moran's farm, southeast of Good-' land, he found that during the summer a swarm of Italian bees had taken'possession of the chimney- and had nearly filled it with honey. It was estimated that something over fifty pounds of honey- was in the chimney. — Goodland Herald. About thirty neighbors and friends gathered at the home of Dr. F. A. Hemphill On Harrison street Monday night with well filled baskets and proceeded to give Mrs. Hemphill a jolly birthday anniversary surprise. All present reported having had a most enjoyable time, and departed at a late hour for their homes, wishing her many more such happy events. The White county Democrat' makes the following interesting mention of Leonard 'Fitrner. who -was employed as linotyper on The Democrat a couple of years ago and has many friends in Rens selaer: ‘‘John Curtis Turner is the latest addition to the Turner family, and was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Turner, of Indianapolis. Oct. 13. As will be noted he bears the name of both grandfathers —John M. Turner and Curtis D. Meeker.” James Walter is. one Jasper county farmer who has made good on late potatoes this year. He brought in a potato vine and eight potatoes to The Democrat a few days ago and the tabers weighed six pounds, the eight, and the vine was over -five feet in length. There was not room enough in the hill for all the potatoes to grow, so five others on the vine, two of them over two feet up on the stalk. Some of those that grew on the vine weigh nearly half a pound.
