Owing to rapid and widespread increase in the number of diphtheria cases in Brockton and the surrounding country, the authorities of the Illinois town have issued an order against public gatherings for 10 days, and physicians think the order will have to be renewed. The inhibition applies to churches, lodges, band concerts and even to baseball games. The people are also advised against gathering in groups on the streets.
