PILGRIM FATHERS MONUMENT DONE
President Taft and Many Notables to Attend Dedication.
DEDICATION TO OCCUR AUG. 5 Fifteen Ships of War Will Participate in Ceremonies and President Taft Will Review Big Fleet for First Time Officially. Beverly, Mass., July 15. —The big monument erected by Massachusetts in memory of the Pilgrim Fathers out at Provincetown just inside the “Hook"’ of Cape Cod, is to be dedicated on Aug. sth. with appropriate cere-, mony. President Taft, Senator Lodge of Massachusetts, James Bryce, ambassador from Great Britain, The Netherlands minister and other dignitaries are to be there. Announcement was made at the executive offices that the president had decided to accept the invitation to attend the dedication. It was tendered him weeks ago but he did not believe he could accept until today. The president and his family will go over from Beverly on the Mayflower.
Fifteen ships of War, according to the announcement made here, will be present and the Mayflower with Mr. Taft aboard will pass in review. It will be the president s first review of a big tfleet. The president, Senator Lodge, Mr. Bryce. The Netherlands minister, former President Eliot of Harvard, and ether notables will speak. A luncheon at which the president and the other sneakers will be guests will seat at least 1,000 diners The monument to the Pilgirms is 260 feet high and stands on a hill, itself more than 100 feet in the air. Mr. Taft, when secretary of war, was a member of the commission which made plans for this monument. Former President Roosevelt laid the cornerstone and made one of his famous speeches that dealt more with malefactors of great w-ealth than upon the Pilgrim Fathers. After the luncheon the president and his family will return to Beverly in the Mayflower.
