remington. Haying has begun. Win. Hicks’ new farm residence is ready for the plasterers. W. W. Reeve of Rensselaer visited his son Clyde Monday. The fine growing weather continues, and corn is a-humping. A party of Remington boys camped and fished on the Tippecanoe last week. C. H. Peck attended the Grand American Handicap Shoot in Chicago last week. Misses Bessie and Geneva Shew of White county visited Charles May and family last week. ~ Miss Sarah Roadifer of Chicago visited last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Roadifer. ' Mrs. Will Hollingsworth and daughter Evalyn, of Atchinson, Kas., are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Morris. » John Kelley of northwest of town is laid up with a broken leg, received from being thrown out in a runaway one day last week. His. horse got scared at an automobile. Recent births: June 18, to Chas. Reeves and wife, a son; June 20, to George Neiergarten and wife, a daughter; June 20, to James Shewand wife of Ipswisch, SO. Dak., a son. George Besse and daughter Ger-, trude were called to Wall, So. Dak., last week by the sickness of the former’s son Chester, who has an attack of diphtheria. At last reports he was getting along all right. The marriage ot Miss Florence Whrnock of Remington to Mr. Fred Bishop of Council Bluffs, lowa, took place last Wednesday morning at the home of the bride’s mother. Mrs. Mary Warnock, in this city, Rev. Wilson officiating. The young couple lett the same day for Chicago and thence to Council Bluffs. where the groom had a home all ready to receive his bride. Mr. Bishop is auditor in the Burlington railroad office at Council Bluffs, while the bride is a popular young lady teacher of Jasper county.
PLEASANT RIDGE. We are all going to Rensselaer the Fourth; The section men were busy last week getting the right of way ready for the Fourth. Com is growing fine and the dry weather has given the farmers a good chance to kill all the weeds. I Wash Lowman came near losing; a horse a few days ago, but we guess from last accounts the danger is over.
Postage stamps have got in circulation so much that some people use them instead of the ready cash, and besides they are so much easier to carry. The ball team went to Parr Sunday and .crossed bats with their ball team. The game was slow and as usual in the country, the diamond was rough. Each side got 12 runs. The game was called to allow the Pleasant Ridge team to catch the milk train home. The game was a sea-saw, and, from the amount of errors, both teams need some practice. They will likely cross bats again in the near future.
PARR. ROss Rowen spent Sunday with home folks. Alfred Longstreth spent Sunday with home folks. Rev. Raridon of Rosebud preached here last Sunday. Mrs. Mattie Porter is on the sick list at this writing. Mies Clara Hurley spent Sunday with Miss Hattie Schaffer. Olga Schreeg spent Sunday afternoon with Deva Hurley. Mr. and Mrs. Al McCurtain were Rensselaer goers Saturday. Miss Ida McCurtain spent Sunday with Mrs. Mary Shaffer. Miss Ida Hurley spent Sunday evening w;ith Martha Schreeg. Mrs. Effie Meyers spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Lina Myers. Miss Marie Gant spent Saturday afternoon with Miss Martha Schreeg. Mrs. Louise Schreeg. and daughter Olga were Rensselaer goers Saturday. John Comer spent Saturday night and Sunday with- his Vick Cotner. There *vas quite a few from here attended the all day meeting Thursday at John E. Alter’s place.
