F. SPRIGGS. Walker Tp. Jasper county farmers as well as those of other sections of the state have found that the blades of the oats this year have a well defined capital letter 'B on them. This, while not customary, occasionally occurs and no one has ever been able to satisfactorily account. for it. It used to be said that its appearance on the oats blades protends war—bloodshed —but as there is no war clouds in sight now and Indiana seems to be the only state
where the phenomonen has been noticed, we infer it must mean “Beveridge,” that he will be unmercifully scalped by the standpatters in this fall’s election.
After all the talk about economy in the early part of the session, this congress will probably go into history as “the most extravagant the country has so far seen. There has really been no sincere effort «t economy. A fitting .climax to the extravagance is the scandalous appropriation of more than SICK),000 for “extra services” of the clerks of the senate and house. Just what these “extra services” are does not appear, and probably never will very clearly, but as some such allowance is made at the close of every session,, one would think that they could be regarded as regular services, and could be duly considered when the clerks accept their jobs. And so the people’s money continues to be passed out with a generous hand by men who would handle their own funds carefully. It is only the people’s money !—lndianapolis News.
