Items Picked Up About the County Capitol. Miss Alice Bates; deputy auditor, was the guest of Mrs. Anna Spencer at Monticello Sunday. ' .* —c— Eleven marriage licenses were issued last month against 8 for the month previous and six for April 1909. o ■ C. L. Bader was over from Winamac Monday, to testify before the grand jury regarding certain bridge contracts, it is reported. Marriage licenses issued : April 30, Robert Levi Blakeman of Indianapolis, aged 22, occupation railroad fireman, to Grace Mordecai Nichols, also of Indianapolis, daughter of Wallace Murray Nichols, deceased, formerly of Jasper county, aged 20, occupation clerk. First marriage for each. Ollie Rhoades and A. J. Harmon of Rensselaer have been drawn on the federal petit jury which convened in Indianapolis yesterday. This section of the state seems to have fared pretty well, as ...Harvey Hartman of Remington and William Middlecamp of Kniman are also drawn from this county, while one is drawn from Goodland, one from Francesville, one from Monticello, two from Fowler and one from Earl Park. Saturday and Monday were-two big days in the county treasurer’s office, it being the two last days jfor paying the spring installment of taxes. The total amount paid in Saturday was $7,353.47, and Monday $10,741.25. While a larger amount was paid in Monday, more receipts were issued Saturday, there being more smaller taxpayers settling then. The largest day for the month was April 26, when $11,753.40 was paid in. The payments for the three days mentioned above were divided as follows: APRIL 26. .... The two state cases against Wm. Lewis, who was charged with conducting a blind tiger at M ( t. Ayr, brought here from Newton county on change of venue, were dismissed yesterday, the prosecuting witness having gone west. The petit jury was excused yesterday far the term without hearing a single case during the entire, term. Other proceedings of the court follow: Joseph Nessius ditch; petition withdrawn. Harvey J.
