THE LOVE FEAST ABANDONED.

The Republican love feast, which has been a party Institution for years upon years, will not be held this year. Most painfully did the leaders consider the matter. The probability of a mere “scrap” at the feast would not have prevented it being held as usual, but the certainty of a riot made it Impossible. “The understanding,” says the Enquirer correspondent, “that a beautiful assortment of knives, battle axes and war clubs had been ordered for the event is said to have had considerable to do with the decision of the powers that be to fail to Issue a call for It." Not only is the love feast “off,’’ but the state convention, which must be held, is looked forward to with the deepest anxiety. The thought of a two-days convention, such as the Republicans have been In the habit of holding, fills the timid leaders with horror. If It can be arranged the convention will last only one day. A part of a day, or even thirty minutes would suit them better. Heretofore the first day of the convention has been given over to speaking and lovefeasting. Speaking and love-feast-ing of the kind likely to be on tap next spring is not wanted. Nothing Is wanted except to get some selfsacrificing fellows on the ticket and then hike out for home.
