Colonel James Gordon to Berve Temporarily In United States Senate. Jackson, Miss., Dec. 28. —Governor Noel announces the appointment of Colonel James Gordon' as United States senator from Mississippi to succeed the late A. J. McLaurln. The appointment is temporary. A senator for the unexpired term is to be elected by the legislature. The new senator is seventy-six years old, a native of Mississippi and served in the Confederate army.
