RAINS HAMPER CANAL WORK

Chagres River Inundates Portion of Railway and Big Ditch. Panama, Dec. 28.—Heavy rains have caused a big rise in the Chagres river, Inundating a considerable portion of the railway and the canal. Through rail traffic was supended and telegraph and telephone lines prostrated. A railroad bridge was swept Sway. Work on the canal has been hammered, but It Is expected that conditions will be normal within a couple of toy*.
