Just call his attention, for instance, to the fact that in twelve years the cost of living has increased 56 per cent; that in that time ninetenths of all the trusts that are picking his pocket have grown up; that taxes are higher than ever before; that two years ago occurred the worst panic the country has known and the effects of which are still felt; that within the last few years the government has lost hundreds of millions of dollars through customs frauds; that a tariff law so bad that twenty Republican representatives and seven Republican senators refused to vote for it, was passed at the last session of congress by the Republican majority; that during the last four years of the Roosevelt administration a billion dollars more was spent than during the last term of Clevelan.
