GENERAL CUT IN EXPENSES
* Total of >732,223,075 Is Wanted to Run the Government. Washington, Dec. 7.—Estimates of appropriations for the fiscal year ending June, 30, 1911, were submitted to the house of representatives by the secretary of the treasury, Franklin MaoVeagh. The grand total is >732,223.075. which Is >103,370,303 less than the appropriations for the current fiscal year. A general cut has been made wherever possible and new work authorized only where regarded necessary. Heretofore it has been the practice of departmental officers to “pad” the estimates with the expectation that they would be materially reduced by congress. President Taft directed that this practice be discontinued.
