VAN SANT VISITS CHICAGO

Grand Army Commander Guest of Honor at Potomac Banquet. Chicago. Nov. 9. Ex-Governor Samuel R. Van Sant of Minnesota, now commander in chief of the G. A. R„ was the guest of honor at the annual banquet and ladies’ night of the Western Society, Army of the Potomac at the Palmer House. Van Sant spoke on "The Union Soldier Since Appomattox.” Major General Frederick D. Grant spoke on “The Dalys of the War” and General John C. Black's subject was “The Navy.” Columbia Post, No. 706, department of Illinois, G. A. R„ and its associate members, the Patriotic Ancient and Honorables of Columbia Post, will give a campfire at Memorial Hall tonight at which Commander in Chief Van Sant will be the guest of honor.
