POLICE BLAME CHAUFFEUR

Chief Steward Condemns Mixture of Alcohol and Gasoline. Chicago, Nov. 9.—A "mixture of liquor and gasoline” is the reason ascribed for automobile accidents like the one at Jackson boulevard bridge by Chief of Police Steward. He saidc “Such accidents are deplorable. But they serve one good purpose in bringing home to the public the necessity of suppressing the joy riders’ and drunken chauffeurs. "Suppose there was only one policeman at the bridge? Had there been two, what difference would it have made? The chauffeur used no precautions whatever. Other chaffeurs were waiting at the bridge at the time; they didn’t go in.”
