The many-sided saloon question has been the principal topic of the political orators all over the state and especially in Indianapolis. The Republicans allege that the brewers of the state have contributed largely to the campaign fund of the Democrats In Indianapolis with the hope that, if they win, an influence in favor of the liquor business will be exercised in the next legislature. Samuel Lewis Shank, an auctioneer, is the Republican candidate for mayor. His Democratic opponent is Charles A. Gauss, a master tinsmith. Fremont Alfred is in the field as an independent candidate. He is a Republican attorney.
