Items Picked Up About the County Capitol. Up to yesterday noon 14 marriage licenses had been issued this monthMiss Hazel Warner returned Monday afternoon from a few days visit in Indianapolis. Monday is the last day for paying the fall installment of taxes, remember, to avoid their going delinquent and having penalty addedClerk Warner was 47 years old yesterday. He still tries to appear a young man, but his silver locks are a dead give away. The trial of Fred Brown, the Goodland young man in jail here charged witu horsestealing, has been set for Thursday, November 4, in the Newton Circuit Court. Marriage licenses issued: Octtober 24, Chris Nelson of Tefft, age 18, son of Hans Nelson, occupation railroader, to Mary Elizabeth Groce, also of Tefft, aged 17, daughter of Alonzo Groce, occupation housekeeper. First marriage for each. Knot tied bv Squire Irwin, in the clerkâs office. H. W. Boyd of Newcastle, state agent and adjuster for the Royal Insurance Co., was in the city yesterday looking up some of the later policies issued by the former agent of the company here, B. F. Ferguson, who had not made full settlement with the company when he moved to Washington state. The insurance is good, of course, but the company is out the premiums amounting to about SIOO all told. New suits filed: No. 7518. David H. Yeoman and Albert V. Farmer, vs. the Northern Indiana Land Co., William S. Potter and Elias Ray; action for damages for being deprived of $4,844-92, due them for cleaning out the Hodge ditch, by reason of an injunction sued out by defendants. The injunction was dissolved and a verdict rendered in favor of plaintiffs September 14, 1908, but plaintiffs aver that they were damaged by reason of the temporary restraining order and deprived of the money due them from December 14, 1907, in the sum of $277.83, and expenses and attorney fees, etc., of $1,729.50, and ask judgment for $2,500.
