JOHN DUVALL RETIRES FROM RESTAURANT
Duvall, who traded his house fend lot on North Division street last spring to Van Grant for the latter’s restaurant, has let Mr. Grant take It back on mortgage and the place Is now closed, pending its reopening to-morrow with Glenn Grant in charge. Mr. Duvall has moved into the CowgiU property on Weston street, vacted by L. A- Harmon, who moved Into the Hiram Day property, a couple of doors north, vacated by W. F. Smith, who moved Into the former Sears property on River street. He luts no plans as yet for the future. NT Mr. DuvjfPdid not find the restaurant business profitable, and has probably sunk several hundred dollars In getting experience, the fact is, Rensselaer has four times as many restaurants as she ought to have to enable anyone to make anything at the business. Two restaurants would do fairly well, but instead of two there are seven restaurants here, including two bakeries which serve short orders. There is also one or two other places that handle candles and Ice-cream, all down town, and two lunch stands up by the depot. It is not strange that there are no fortunes being made in the restaurant business In Rensselaer.
