YOUNG WOMAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE.

Husband Gets Drunk, It Is Alleged, and Wife Takes Carbolic Acid. The 13-year-old wife of John Oberly, a section hand on the Monon, attempted suicide Monday morning by taking carbolic acid- Her mouth and throat were burned considerably, but she will recover. The family moved here recently from Chalmers and occupy one of C. B. Steward’s properties In the northwest part of town. While but 19 years old, the woman has been a mother three times, we understand, the first two children having died at birth or shortly after. The last child is only about a month old, and the care of It, and her husband coming home Saturday night drunk, it Is alleged, caused her to become so dispondent that she swallowed the contents of a bottle of carbolic acid, after a quarrel with her husband Monday morning, to end all. There wa3 not enough of the poison to bring Immediate fatal results, and the prompt attention of a physician will save her life. The husband is said to have gone off to his work Monday, notwithstanding her critical condition, and left her to get along as best she could. Kind neighbors staid with her and did what they could to relieve her sufferings. Her husband did not return home until night. The young woman has declared that she will finish the Job yet, and she may carry out her threat, as she seems to be thoroughly disgusted with life- The case is a pitiful one.
