INDIANA GOVERNOR ON TAFT
Marshall Says President Is Supplying Democratic Campaign Material. Chicago, Oct. s.—Governor Thomas R. Marshall of Indiana in an interview here said: “President Taft is making the best kind of campaign material for the Democrats. In his speech on the shin subsidy he remarked that some people criticised the plan on the ground that it afforded governmental interference in favor of certain private shipping interests, and added that the same criticism might as well be directed against tariff legislation. “It might be justly directed against tariff legislation of the kind just enacted at Washington and which the president is approving in his speeches. As soon as the people begin to realize it we (the Democrats) will get in.”
