JOHNSON GALLANTLY FIGHTS FOR HIS LIFE
Bulletins of Favorable and Unforable Sort Issued. Rochester, Minn., Sept. 17.—Governor Johnson spent a fairly easy morning for one who has been on the brink of the grave since operated on for an in testinal abscess. Today will determine whether he will recover, as all the doctors seem to expect the crucial time to come before nightfall. Should he pass this crisis there would be hope for recovery, although his life would still be in danger for several days During the early hours of this morning the governor’s condition was such that frequent salihe injections were administered to stimulate an almost imperceptible pulse. With the break of day the governor began to mend a bit and the first official bulletin issued by Dr. William J. Mayo said that the patient rallled'frora the Binking spell and his condition was latisfactory. Other bulletins tended to confirm this, except one at noon, which stated that the governor was suffering "considerable pain from accumulations of gas, and that his condition was not so good." The next word from the doctors showed that the pains had gone and Dr. Mayo said his patient had about as even chance.
