The state fair will be held next week at IndianapolisMiss Elsie Gannon went to Francesville yesterday to visit. D. H. Yeoman made a business trip to Michigan City yesterday. Ed Goetz and Allie Francis went to Lafayette Thursday to attend the fair. Alfred Collins went to Fair Oaks and Thayer yesterday to transact business. Mrs. Martin of Goodland came Thursday to visit with the family of Moses Chupp. O. H. Pitts went to Monon and Boswell Thursday to attend the fairs at both places. Mrs. Eleanor Adams returned yesterday from her visit with her son Ray, of Chicago. Read the page ad of W. J. Wright, the furniture man, on another page of to-day’s Democrat. Jake Moore, and Lou Hickman went to Monon yesterday morning to the home-coming. Fred Arnott arrived home Wednesday from his three weeks visit in Spokane and Seattle, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. I. L- Zigler went to Crown Point yesterday to attend the fair and transact business. Miss Milocent Work came Thursday to prepare for her work as Latin instructor in the city schools. Misses Merle Harvey and Zelda Malone of Monticello came Thursday to spend a few days with friends. Kenneth Allman returned home Thursday from his two weeks sojourn at Milwaukee and Chicago. M. S. Smith of Laporte and John Sommers, of south of town, went to Chicago Thursday to buy a car load of cattle. The new system of street numbering in Chicago became operative Sept. 1, and practically all the numbers are changed. Mrs. E. P. Honan and son Edward returned yesterday from Chicago where they have been visiting and also having Edward’s eyes treated. Miss Irene Trenberth of Ishpeming, Mich., the new music instructor in the city schools, arrived Thursday to be in readiness for Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Raub and Levi Reynolds of Chalmers, E. V. and Joe Raub of Indianapolis, spent yesterday with Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Nichols. W. H. Pullin went to Lafayette Thursday to attend the fair and scatter a little advertising for the Mississippi alfalfa lands which he is agent for. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Flowers and Jess Goodland of Frankfort, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pollock of nehr town, returned home Thursday. D. M. Worland went to Shelbyville Thursday for a few days visit with relatives. Mrs. Worland is also visiting there, having preceded him a few days, returning home yesterday. Mrs. F- A. Ross and son Livingston went to Chicago Thursday to visit with relatives and ” friends. Livingston returned Friday, but the former remained for a longer visit, Estle Remley returned from Monon Thursday, where he went to run a stand at the home-coming. He also was up to Crown Point to get rates on running a stand there, but was not favorably impressed with the outlook. O. S. Rardin of Carmel, Ind., tile new pastor of the Rose Bud and Mt. Hope Methodist Protestant circuit, was here Wednesday looking over his new- field of labor. He will preach his first sermon one week from to-morrow. Jerry Sullivan and Miss Patterson of Ambia arrived here Thursday for a few days visit. Mr. Sullivan will take a position as principal in the Ambia schools this coming year. Miss Patterson came to seek a position as a district teacher. * Albin Coen of Chicago is visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M, Wasson- Albin is studying for an architect and has put in two years at the Armour Institute, and this year will attend the University of Pennsylvnaia at Philadelphia. S. H. Hopkins went to Lafayette Thursday from which, with another gentleman, he will go. to Ft. Wayne in the latter’s auto- He went from there to Albion on business. “Farmer” is getting the automobile fever and Is thinking some of buying a machine. Misses Irene Simpson and Harriet Overton, John R. Gray, John and Harry Moore, Noble York, Mrs. Mary Lowe, James Watt and wife and E. L. Hollingsworth were Monon goers Wednesday to attend the home-com-ing and to visit with relatives and friends.
