Poll Indicates That St. Louis WHI Get Next Encampment as Atlantic pity Does Not Want It In August. Salt Lake City, Utah, Aug. 13. Samuel R. Van Sant of Minnesota has been elected commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic. Van Sant won over Judge William, A. Ketcham of Indiana by a vote of 587 to 156. Mrs. Jennie L. Berry of Des Moines, la., won in a fight with Mrs. Belle Harris of Kansas for the national presidency of the Woman’s Relief Corps. In addition to Commander Van Sant, the following officers were elected: Senior vice commander, W. M. Bostaph, Ogden, Utah; Junior vice commander, Judge Alfred Beers, Bristol, Conn.; surgeon general, W. H. Lemon, Lawrence, Kan. Nominations for chaplain were made but the vote upon this position was postponed owing to the lateness of the hour. A poll Indicates that the chances of St. Lous for the forty-fourth encampment are much brighter. Atlantic City, the other aspirant, does not want the encampment In August, and the veterans are loath to change the month of meeting. H. N. Rounds of Rock Island, 111., was elected lieutenant commander of the Flying Squadron Naval Veterans’ association. The army nurses selected Mrs. Mary E. Squires of Wisconsin conductor, Mrs. Elizabeth Chapman of Illinois guard and Miss Nancy Hall of lowa surgeon.
