THE COURT HOUSE
Items Picked Up About the County Capitol. Trustee Karch of Walker tp., was in the city cn business Monday. —o— New suits filed: No. 7472. wfiliam Hershman vs. Michael H. Good, et al; suit to quiet title. Mayor Ellis fined Fred Irwin $5 and costs, in all about $15, Monday for looking too frequently into the cup that cheers the day before. —o—Erhart Weurthner returned Sunday from Longcliff, bringing back with him his wife, who has been an inmate of the asylum for the past few weeks. —o— Sheriff Sawyer of Newton county came over Monday morning and brought over Ed Curts of Brook, who will board with Sheriff Shirer twenty days at Newton county’s expense for a plain drunk. —o— Mrs. Eslinger of Trivoli, Ill., took her sister, Mrs. L. P. Lane, of south of town home with her last Friday, as stated by The Democrat she was likely to do, but the two little children were left here, although Mr. Lane had requested that they be brought to Peoria where he would meet them and take care of them. Evidently the interest taken by the Eslingers is not wholly a charitable one, as a chattel mortgage from Mrs. Lane to John W. Eslinger for $110, covering one brown horse, one red cow and one black hog—all the livestock on the place, we understand—was filed for record here Tuesday.
