Christian Kalberer Buys Old Barcos Horsestocks Site. CONCRETE TILE AND POSTS Will Be the Output Manufactured — Commercial Club Will Give Him Section of Hock Free, and Sand Will Be Secured From the M. I. Adams Pit, South of Town, Which Is Said to be of Superior Quality Christian Kalberer of West Lafayette has purchased for SBOO cash the old Barcus horsestocks factory site north of the railroad, consisting of 15 lots, and intends to erect thereon at once a concrete tile and fence post factory, putting in a stean< drying system so that he can manufacture right along through the winter. He has contracted for his gravel with M. I- Adams to be taken from the Adams’ gravel pit two miles south of town. He goes in a day or two to Minneapolis to buy his machinery for the plant, which will all be new and up-to-date. The factory will .probably give employment to ten or a dozen men right along. It is Mr. Kaliberer’s intention to use crushed stone and gravel in his work, and the Commercial Club has contracted to purchase of Conrad Kellner a three or four acre tract of rock south of the Granville Moody property at a cost of S2OO, and to furnish to Mr. Kaliberer the free us of the rock, the Club to retain title to the land. Mr. Kaliberer is a man of considerable means and besides owning a fine home 'in West. Lafayette, owns two or three large fine farms. He has the concrete tile on his own farms and thinks it much superior to the clay, and believes it is th? coming tile for drainage purposes. We understand he expects to move his family here as soon as he can dispose of his property in West Lafayette, he being very much taken up with Rensselaer. An expert gravel inspector has been here and inspected the Adams gravel pit and pronounces it the finest quality of gravel he ever saw’, and says it is a regular “dynamite gravel,” the same that is used in the manufacture of dynamite.
