NOT MANY APPLICANTS PROBABLE.

The civil service commission states that an examnation will be held at Rensselaer on Saturday, August 21, for the position of postmaster at Alx, seven miles north of Rensselaer. There Is one or two houses there, a church and a school bouse, and last year the compensation of the postmaster was |B9. But that was before the Parr rural route was established, which has killed the business of the office almost entirely and the compensation for the coming year may possibly reach 30 cents, although it is scarcely likely to.
